Danny (2008 Design)

Alright, guys, it's here, the very first drawing I ever did... except it's not THE first drawing I ever did, but the first one that matters to me; and what better way to open than with the blue pup that started it all- Danny Hazard.

I think by seeing this you guys might be able to tell how I started. I think you can get a pretty Sonic vibe out of these and, yeah... that's kind of where I got the idea for the designs, and they would go on like this for at least until 2009-early 2010, where they started to break into their own. But for now, let's pretend this is the year 2008- Easter of 2008, to be exact. I was going to get a haircut and noticed that the line was awfully long, so I used a notepad of lined paper and just began doodling. I never designed a character before, and all I had were some Crayola pencils with me- so I just thought of some things I liked and put them down on paper. I love dogs; my favorite color is Royal Blue; at the time, I had just gotten my copy of Crash of the Titans (when I thought that Crash would keep going for a LONG time), so I had Crash on the brain... but I just didn't know how to start. And in the end... Danny happened.

Yeah, Danny has changed quite a lot since then, and as much as I hate looking at my old art, there is something that I can't help but respect about my original drawings. I mean, I had to start somewhere, but I didn't really think that it would expand into something that I would dedicate so much of my life into. I mean, back then, Danny had no story to him- I got the last name "Hazard" from the show/terrible movie starring Jessica Simpson, The Dukes of Hazzard (which explains what the "D" stands for- as well as the name on my original DA account- now deactivated), and that was just about it. Where does Sonic jump into the picture? Well, once I introduce Jackson and Cassius' original designs, it'll make sense.

No critiques necessary- I think it's pretty obvious to tell what's wrong with this, from an artistic standpoint, especially considering what kind of pieces I can produce now. I just wanted to post these drawings here as a way to archive them, as well as to show you guys just exactly how far I've come as both as an artist and a creator. But for now, here's to little blue pup that started it all!

... so, how does Danny look, 7 years later? Well... that's a good question. Just wait and see.
